| 1.November 1991 |
Preparatory Office of National Dong Hwa University was established. Dr Tzung-Tsann Mu was named Director of the Preparatory Office. |
| 2.July 1994 |
National Dong Hwa University was formally established. Dr Mu was appointed as the founding President of National Dong Hwa University. |
| 3.August 2001 |
Dr Mu stepped down; Vice President, Dr Wen-Shu Hwang, served as Acting President. |
| 4.February 2002 |
Dr Wen-Shu Hwang was appointed President. |
| 5.May 2008 |
Both University Councils of National Dong Hwa University and National Hualien University of Education adopted the proposal to integrate. |
| 6.August 2008 |
National Hualien University of Education (four colleges) formally integrated with National Dong Hwa University (five colleges). |
| 7.August 2010 |
Re-organization of departments completed (eight colleges). |
